Peterborough United chief Darragh MacAnthony would like to see Liverpool sign Brentford forward Ivan Toney.

MacAnthony, who is a Reds fan, suggested that Toney would suit Liverpool’s style of play.

MacAnthony added that he could see Toney playing for England next season.

“I’m a Liverpool fan and I know my players,” MacAnthony told The Hard Truth podcast, as quoted by Peterborough Today.

“And I’d be delighted if we [Liverpool] signed Ivan. Give me him over (Divock) Origi any day of the week.

“Liverpool cross the ball with quality for fun and imagine Ivan getting on the end of those crosses from those full-backs!”

MacAnthony added: “Ivan is only 24/25 and not yet at the peak of his powers. I can see him scoring 15 goals for Brentford and I can see him playing for England next season.”

It is important to note that Liverpool have not genuinely been linked with a move for Toney.

However, there is no denying that he could be a decent signing for the club. Toney scored 33 goals and registered 10 assists in 52 appearances for Brentford last season.

Toney also averaged a WhoScored player rating of 7.41 across the 2020-21 campaign. The aforementioned figures highlight that he is a decent player.

Toney is only 25 years of age, so it would be fair to assume that he is not the finished article.

Toney possesses a current market value of €18 million. If Toney continues to score goals, his market value will only continue to increase.

Therefore, now is a good time to sign the forward. Toney appears to be a bright young talent.
