Former Red Jamie Carragher has given his verdict on Liverpool centre-back Dejan Lovren after the recent Merseyside derby.

The game between Liverpool and Everton at Goodison Park finished 0-0 yesterday. Liverpool struggled to break down the Toffees, but they are a point closer to a maiden Premier League title.

Lovren came on as a substitute late in the second half. Carragher was not impressed with the performance of the Croatian.

“He’s [Lovren] too emotional, that’s always been his problem,” Carragher told Sky Sports, as quoted by the Express.

“He always feels he has to win a fight, has to win a challenge.

“I used to play that position as a centre-back and at times you have to accept someone may be stronger and quicker.

“You have to get yourself in positions and try and hold them up.

“I said before they were too often they were putting the ball right down Virgil van Dijk’s throat but as soon as Lovren’s come on they’ve been hitting that channel and that is the channel to hit.

“Everton could get some real joy from it.”

Before the pandemic suspended the Premier League, Lovren faced Watford.

The Reds lost that particular clash 3-0, and Carragher at the end of the match stated that Lovren tries to fight everyone on the pitch.

That is basically what Carragher said after the Everton clash. That highlights that this is a problem that Lovren has had for a while.

It was two years ago that Lovren stated that he was one of the best defenders in the world. However, the reality is, he has never been that good.

No one has ever spoken about the Croatia international in such a way.
