Former Red Stan Collymore believes that Liverpool should be looking to sign Wolverhampton Wanderers forward Raul Jimenez this summer.
Collymore stated that Jimenez is a player that has taken to the Premier League like a “duck to water”.
With that being the case, Collymore believes that Jimenez is a player that could provide “real competition” for Roberto Firmino.
Collymore added that Wolves winger Adama Traore would also be a good signing for Liverpool.
Collymore told the Mirror, (7 July, page 47): “Liverpool should have two Wolves players on their shopping lists this summer – Raul Jimenez and Adama Traore.
“Troare is the obvious one but Jimenez has settled into the Premier League like a duck to water. He’s great in the box, attacks crosses exceptionally well, links play and is an all-round eight out of ten in the art of striking.
“He could provide real competition for Bobby Firmino at Anfield.”
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
With that being the case, perhaps he could be a decent back-up option to Firmino.
The problem is Jimenez’s contract expires in June 2023. Wolves could demand a hefty transfer fee this summer as a result.
Jimenez has a current market value of €40 million.
It has been reported that Liverpool are currently struggling financially, which means that it is unlikely that the club would be able to afford Jimenez right now.
It is worth noting that no journalist close to the club has stated that Liverpool want Jimenez. This is purely Collymore’s opinion.
