Manchester United legend Gary Neville believes Liverpool will claim the Premier League title come the end of the 2019-20 season.
The Reds defeated Tottenham Hotspur away from home in the Premier League on the weekend 1-0 thanks to Roberto Firmino’s first-half strike. The victory ensured Liverpool a 14-point lead at the top of the table with a game in hand.
Speaking after Liverpool’s win over Spurs, Neville gave his honest assessment of the title race. He believes not even the reigning champions Manchester City could catch the current league leaders Liverpool.
Neville told Sky Sports, as quoted by Metro: “They are outstanding, brilliant to watch and doing everything a championship-winning team should be doing.
“I can’t see anyone stopping them. The records for Klopp are incidental right now. The only thing that matters is lifting the Premier League trophy.
“I think the lead is unassailable. Klopp will never say it but his team are playing so well and are so in control and they are still growing and getting better.
“He won’t care if he loses one or two games, he just wants that trophy.
“When we were asking Pep last year about records, because City have won it before they probably could look to beat their previous title victories but for Liverpool it’s all about getting that first Premier League title.”
These comments just sum up how good Liverpool currently are. The Reds have only dropped points in one Premier League fixture this season, which was the 1-1 draw against Manchester United at Old Trafford back in October.
With that being the case, one can see why Neville feels the way he does. Despite all of this, the title race is far from done.
Liverpool supporters have seen too much pain over the years to make statements such as Neville, but there is a sense that this Liverpool side is much stronger than any other side that has represented the club in recent times. They should get the job done.
