England legend Gary Lineker had a very similar reaction to the Liverpool supporters who saw Adrian gift Atletico Madrid the victory at Anfield last night.
The Spanish giants were second best for large parts at Anfield last night, but they came from 2-0 down to win 3-2, progressing to the quarter-final stage of the Champions League 4-2 on aggregate.
It was Adrian’s error, which led to Marcos Llorente scoring the all-important away goal for Atletico Madrid, that changed the momentum of the tie.
Lineker, like many Liverpool supporters at the time, had the exact same thoughts regarding the away goals rule.
The dreaded away goal as Adrian errs. Champions League is at it again.

The rule is sensational when it is in your favour. However, it certainly was not in Liverpool’s favour last night.
The Reds played really well, especially within the 90 minutes, but they did not score the decisive goal.
That ultimately saw the game go to extra time, and the longer a football match goes for, the more likely someone will make a mistake. Adrian’s mistake was as costly as they come unfortunately.
