Veteran defender Ezequiel Garay has apparently been offered to Liverpool on a short-term basis as the former Valencia man looks for a new club.

Liverpool are currently short on centre-backs, that is well-known, and have turned to Fabinho and Joel Matip to try and forge a partnership.

Early signs against Leicester were promising, too, but with Joe Gomez and Virgil Van Dijk out for considerable periods it’s an area of the squad that will remain fragile for some time.

That in mind, then, Spanish outlet Sport is reporting Liverpool and Barcelona might be interested in a deal for him, with his representatives currently looking for new employers for him after release from Mestalla.

Ezequiel Garay is an experienced defender at the top level having played for the likes of Real Madrid, Benfica, Zenit St Petersburg and, most recently, Valencia – whilst also an international for Argentina.

On a free, he might be a decent stop-gap to tie the Reds over but Jurgen Klopp and the recruitment team have often shied away from such short-term deals, rather looking for moves that will benefit in the middle to l0ng-term.

Of course, the Reds are in unique circumstances, so maybe that will have an impact on that particular stance.
