Sevilla forward Lucas Ocampos is reportedly interested in joining Liverpool at the end of the season amid speculation over his future in Spain.
The report claims that Ocampos’ former club River Plate would see 3.5% of any potential deal and want the move to go through, which is said to be a thought shared by the player himself whose contract at Sevilla has a €65m release clause.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
This comes after the update earlier this week that Liverpool are considering offering Takumi Minamino as a makeweight in negotiations for Ocampos. Liverpool are not willing to pay the full €65m release clause and are, instead, looking to subsidise the price by including Minamino as part of their offer, as Sevilla are also keen on signing the Japan international.
So, even if Liverpool do end up completing a deal for Ocampos this summer it might not be for the €65m quoted, which may not be news that River Plate want to hear. Minamino is currently on loan to Southampton in the Premier League and the more he continues to perform the lower the fee Liverpool could need to pay for Ocampos could get, with the Liverpool man’s price potentially rising.
Another reason why the price could be lowered is Ocampos’ interest in joining Liverpool. If the Argentine forward is desperate for a move to Anfield he could hand in a transfer request or, at least, heavily push Sevilla to allow him to go. This means that this latest update could be very good news for Liverpool if they are seriously pursuing a deal for him.
