Liverpool are reportedly one of the clubs chasing young Ajax central midfielder Ryan Gravenberch ahead of the summer transfer window.

According to Gazzetta dello Sport, as transcribed by Sport Witness, Liverpool, Chelsea and Manchester City are also showing interest in the Dutchman, who is valued at €35m.

The report claims, however, that Manchester City are unlikely to pursue Gravenberch further following the news of Kevin de Bruyne’s new deal at The Etihad.

Gravenberch is an intriguing target as Liverpool potentially look to replace his compatriot Gini Wijnaldum at the end of the season. The Ajax man has been in impressive form this season and Liverpool witnessed what he was capable of first hand back in December. He played the full 90 minutes in a 1-0 win for Liverpool in Anfield, recording a WhoScored rating of 7.07 in defensive midfield – completing four dribbles, providing one key pass and making two tackles and one interception.

The 18-year-old has shone in Europe this season, with an average WhoScored rating of 6.85 in six Champions League appearances and a whopping 7.79 in three Europa League starts following their third-placed finish in Liverpool’s group. Gravenberch has made nine tackles and nine interceptions in his three Europa League appearances, highlighting his impressive ability to win the ball back off the opposition whilst still averaging over one key pass per game.

This shows that the teenager has plenty of promise and has the potential to be a very good addition to Liverpool’s squad in the short-term and the long-term. Signing Gravenberch, 18, to partner Curtis Jones, 20, could give Liverpool a pairing to build around for the next decade if both players are able to develop into consistent performers given their young age.
