Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone believes that Liverpool are the best team in the world.

The Spanish giants faced Liverpool last night in the Champions League, and they got one over the team that Simeone believes is the best in the world.

Liverpool lost the first leg of their Champions League last-16 tie against Atletico Madrid 1-0 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium.

Saul Niguez’s first-half strike ultimately gives the Spanish giants something to defend come the second leg at Anfield on March 11.

Simeone set his side up to absorb pressure, which they did to perfection. After claiming the 1-0 victory, Simeone stated that he got one over the best team in the world.

“When you work as a team, in a block, you can do whatever you want. It’s not the best party ever because we didn’t win a trophy,” Simeone said, as quoted by HITC.

”Don’t forget. The best team in the world came here, and we beat it.”

Simeone is very much praising Liverpool by claiming that they are the best team in the world.

There is no denying Liverpool of that title, as they have claimed the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup in the past seven months.

Liverpool also possess a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table this season. However, there is a sense that Simeone is trying to tell everyone how good of a manager he is by claiming such a result over Jurgen Klopp’s side.

It would have been a much better result had his players not gone down every time a Liverpool player was close enough to breathe on them and he didn’t go into hysterics every time. But I remember him for that as a player. Dirty then, dirty now
