Atletico Madrid manager Diego Simeone has stated that Liverpool are a “magnificent” side.

In the past seven months, the Reds have won the UEFA Champions League, UEFA Super Cup and the FIFA Club World Cup.

Liverpool also possess a 25-point lead at the top of the Premier League table, meaning it is likely that Jurgen Klopp’s team will add the Premier League title to the aforementioned list of achievements.

The Reds, who are looking to also defend the Champions League title this season, face Atletico Madrid in the last 16 of the competition, with the first leg tonight at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The second leg takes place on March 3 at Anfield.

Simeone was full of praise for Liverpool ahead of the clash, which does suggest that there is a lot of respect from the opposition team.

“ Liverpool are a magnificent team trained by a coach who is different,” Simeone said, as quoted by the Mirror.

“We have always spoken about great teams and I have no doubt this Liverpool team will go down in football history as a great team because it is different to other teams. This team is more intensive, changes and adapts. I admire this as a rival coach.

“Klopp has been creating this kind of team for four years and he has been improving.”

It is great to see Liverpool getting this sort of respect. Klopp has turned the club back into a force again.

However, this particular clash against the Spanish giants will be a difficult one. Atletico Madrid have always been difficult to break down under Simeone, meaning Liverpool will have to work hard to score.
