Manchester City boss Pep Guardiola has confirmed that David Silva is a major injury concern for their trip to Anfield on Sunday.
He said: “David Silva was injured. Five minutes before the first half ended he told me he had a muscular problem.
“When he has a muscular problem and cannot play more minutes it is because he has something and when it is a muscular problem it is always a minimum of 10-12 days.”
The Sky Blues are six points behind Liverpool and are under massive pressure to win this weekend otherwise they face the risk of falling even further behind the Reds at such an early stage of the season.
Jurgen Klopp will be without key defender Joel Matip which means Dejan Lovren will start against Manchester City. The Croatian needs to redeem himself after he failed to cover himself in glory last season, costing Liverpool two goals at the Etihad.
Liverpool haven’t been playing particularly well in recent weeks but have an uncanny knack for winning games that they ought to lose. Their last three domestic fixtures have seen the Reds come from behind to win.
Pep Guardiola will be looking to hype his players up and cause an upset at Anfield but the home crowd will be certain to create an unfriendly atmosphere for the Citizens, with Raheem Sterling, in particular, likely to be greeted with boos and jeers.
