Premier League side Crystal Palace are reportedly determined to sign Liverpool transfer target Ozan Tufan at the end of the season.

According to Fanatik, Crystal Palace are preparing to activate the €20m release clause in Tufan’s contract in order to avoid negotiating with Fenerbahce.

This comes after Liverpool reportedly spent time scouting Tufan on international duty with Turkey earlier this year as they look at potential central midfield targets for the summer window.

Tufan may not have been the best option for Liverpool if he is only available for €20m. It is a lot of money to spend on a player who has spent his entire career in the Turkish Super Lig. He has not proven that he can play in a top-five league, which means that it would be a risky addition for the Reds. Crystal Palace do not have the same problem as they need a lower quality of player in comparison to Liverpool, as they compete further down the Premier League table and are not involved in European competitions.

If Tufan was available for a cheaper, bargain, fee then he could have been a worthwhile acquisition by the Reds. However, they may not regret missing out on the Turkish international if Palace trigger his release clause and sign him for €20m. The club may just move on to other midfield targets who can provide more value for money in terms of where they currently play and their potential, given that Tufan is also 26 and is not a promising youngster who could make Liverpool profit in the future.
