According to Fabrizio Romano, in The Guardian, Manchester City have agreed a deal of €10m plus add-ons, with a 20% sell-on clause for Fluminense going forward.
The report claims Kayky has been dubbed the ‘new Neymar’ in Brazil following his breakthrough this season and will join City in the summer of 2022.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
This is a shame for Liverpool as Kayky appears to be a very promising young talent. The 17-year-old has two goals and one assist in six games at senior level for Fluminense, prompting interest from Europe in the form of Manchester City and Liverpool. He has clearly been able to impress enough to get into the first-team despite his age, which shows that his development is on the right path and that he could have a bright future in the game.
€10m does not stand out as a huge transfer fee for a player with potential. Vinicius Junior, for example, signed for Real Madrid for a reported £40m off the back of scoring four goals in 12 appearances for Flamengo in the league, which means that he was scoring at the exact same rate as Kayky for Fluminense this season. This suggests that €10m could be a very shrewd deal for Manchester City and one that Liverpool may regret not competing for more ferociously if he lives up to his potential.
