Some Liverpool supporters were not impressed with Naby Keita’s performance against Athletic Bilbao yesterday.

The pre-season clash finished in a 1-1 draw at Anfield. As you can see below, some Reds supporters took to Twitter to state that Keita played poorly against the La Liga side.

Liverpool signed the midfielder from RB Leipzig for a transfer fee of €60 million back in the summer of 2018.

However, there is no denying that Keita has not lived up to his price tag. Keita has only scored seven goals and registered four assists in 76 appearances for Liverpool’s first-team.

However, there is context as to why Keita has struggled during his time at Anfield. The Guinea international has not been able to stay fit.

We believe that if Keita can stay fit for the majority of the 2021-22 campaign, he will prove his worth. The midfielder is a talented footballer after all.

The footage below, which  has been provided by YouTube account yJayVids, backs up the aforementioned argument.

Also, we don’t believe that it is fair to judge Keita off a pre-season game. The reality is, pre-season games are simply about gaining fitness.
