Atletico Madrid striker Alvaro Morata could miss the upcoming Champions League tie against Liverpool due to a right leg muscle injury.

The Reds face the Spanish giants in the competition’s last 16 this month, with the first leg on February 18 at the Wanda Metropolitano Stadium. The second leg takes place on March 3 at Anfield.

Atletico Madrid have not stated just how long Morata will be unavailable for, but the scans did reveal he suffered an injury during the 1-0 league loss against Real Madrid on the weekend. It is likely he will miss the first leg of the clash against Liverpool.

If this were to be true, it would be a blow for Atletico Madrid. When Morata played for Chelsea recently, we did not see the best of the striker. He certainly could possess a threat if he were to play against the Reds.

What makes the injury worse for the Spanish giants is that Diego Costa and Joao Felix are both injured at this current moment.

Liverpool will be in for a challenge regardless come the first leg, but the injuries to some of Diego Simeone’s key men definitely give the Reds an advantage.

Of course, some of the key men Simeone is currently without could recover in time for the clash.
