Reds midfielder Gini Wijnaldum gave an interview after Liverpool’s 3-1 defeat to Real Madrid at the Estadio Alfredo Di Stefano last night.

Some Liverpool supporters reacted to Wijnaldum’s interview on Twitter. The aforementioned supporters were not impressed with the Dutchman’s performance against the La Liga giants.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

Wijnaldum has been a fine servant for the Reds. The Dutchman has made 228 appearances for Liverpool. But, he is not exempt from criticism.

We agree with the responses from the aforementioned supporters. For the most part, Wijnaldum has been solid for Liverpool this season.

The Dutchman is averaging a WhoScored player rating of 6.75 across the 2020-21 campaign.

However, Wijnaldum only registered a WhoScored player rating of 6.07 against Real Madrid, which highlights that he was poor against the Spanish side.

We believe that Wijnaldum is more open to criticism simply because his contract expires at the end of the season.

Wijnaldum has been linked with a move to Barcelona, which just adds more fuel to the fire. No football fan likes to see one of their players linked with a move away.
