Liverpool’s move for Roma goalkeeper Alisson Becker is set to move a step closer, with the player expected to fly into Merseyside on Wednesday.

The Reds have agreed a fee in the region of £66million for the Brazilian no.1 and are now free to conduct the formalities with the player.

It is understood that Alisson has already agreed terms on a five-year contract in principle, meaning it is just a matter of signing on the dotted line after his medical.

Alisson, who will cut short his holiday in Sardinia, should undergo the assessment with club doctors in the coming days.

There is growing confidence that the deal can be wrapped up within the next 48 hours.

Liverpool were forced to move quickly and meet Roma’s demands given serious interest from Premier League rivals Chelsea, who were reportedly hoping to hijack the deal.

But the 25-year-old is said to have his heart set on a move to Liverpool, having held talks with manager Jurgen Klopp.

After making Virgil van Dijk the most expensive defender in history just six months ago, the club are now set to shatter the world record fee for a goalkeeper in a significant statement of intent.
