Ajax midfielder Hakim Ziyech believes that his side could have beaten Liverpool in the Champions League final last season.

Ajax were moments away from securing a place in the final. However, Tottenham Hotspur striker Lucas Moura scored a late goal against the Dutch side to make it an all-English final.

Liverpool defeated Spurs 2-0 in the final thanks to goals from Mohamed Salah and Divock Origi.

We are almost 12 months on from Liverpool’s victory over Spurs. Despite that being the case, Ziyech has made some fresh comments regarding that particular season.

“We could’ve surely beaten Liverpool [in the Champions League final].” he said in his documentary, as quoted by Oddschanger.

ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT

I’m not sure why Ziyech feels the need to make such comments. At the end of the day, Ajax did not even make the final, so it is a pointless debate to even have.

Besides, Liverpool had the experience of losing the 2018 Champions League final. That automatically would have given them an edge over Ajax had they played against each other.

That Ajax side had never played in a Champions League final. They were entering the unknown. Liverpool were not.
