Real Madrid’s £40m midfielder Martin Odegaard will reportedly pursue a transfer to Liverpool this summer if he is not given chances in Zinedine Zidane’s squad.
According to Spanish outlet AS, Odegaard will ask to leave Real Madrid if he is not going to get regular game time and is interested in securing a move to Liverpool.
The report claims Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp is a big fan of the Norweigan and they could be open to doing a deal for the young midfielder.
ANFIELD WATCH VERDICT
This appears to follow on from a report by 90Min earlier this week that claimed Real Madrid are planning to sell Odegaard this summer. Real are reportedly ready to cash in on Odegaard and are willing to part ways with him for a fee in the region of £40m, with Zidane not looking to keep him around as part of his first-team squad for next season in La Liga.
We explained in our analysis of the report from 90Min that Odegaard’s impressive ball progression from midfield could mean he has the potential to operate in a similar role to Roberto Firmino. Odegaard’s passing metrics in the Premier League for Arsenal per 90 this season dwarf Firmino’s and this means that he could potentially be a good option to challenge the Brazilian for his place next term if he joins the club.
If Odegaard is keen to force through a move to Liverpool, that could make him an even more attractive target for the Reds. Not only does it show great passion from the player but it also means that Liverpool could haggle down to a lower transfer fee for Odegaard as Real know the midfielder wants to sign for Klopp’s side and they could struggle to sell him to another club if he has his heart set on a move to Anfield.
